Educators

Alaska teachers are some of APICC’s most important partners in workforce development. Our teachers are on the front line every day, advising and shaping students into Alaska’s future workers. APICC strives to provide quality classroom resources and hands-on professional development opportunities with our member companies and other industry partners.

Presentations and Activities

Whether you’re covering a unit on the history of Oil & Gas, or the geology of mining, or developing a unit on employability skills, APICC is your connection to industry. We can assist in scheduling industry experts to provide classroom presentations, hands-on activities, or arrange for a facility tour.

Recently, we worked with King Career Center to develop Industry Careers Week, a week-long schedule of activities and speakers from companies like NANA Management Services, Hilcorp Alaska, and Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.

We also developed a Process Technology (PTEC) Mobile Lab to introduce students to the process industry, the occupational opportunities, and the availability of nationally recognized training that is available for these jobs right here in Alaska. We have traveled with the PTEC Mobile Lab across the state – from Valdez to Barrow, from Sitka to Kotzebue, and to many communities in between. Find out more about the PTEC Mobile Lab by clicking below.

Professional Development

Fun, unique, insightful, enlightening, powerful. These are words used by teacher who have participated in APICC’s Teacher Industry Externship program. Over 130 Alaska teachers have taken the challenge, stepping out of the classroom and into heavy equipment, or onto an oil platform, or up to the North Slope, to learn about industry. They’ve learned about safety culture, maritime transportation, underground mining, and core samples. Each of these unique externship opportunities provides a look inside industry, and gives the teacher an understanding of the workforce needs and challenges faced by industry employers.
